This is a liability issue. We started in March accepting only check, money order, ACH/Bank Transfer or credit card as forms of payment. If you must pay with cash, this can still be done at our business partner, BBVA Compass bank during banking hours. They are located at 123 S Harrison Street, San Augustine, TX, 75972. As long as you have your utility billing or a copy of it, you can pay your bill there either inside the bank or in one of the 4 drive through windows.
The San Augustine Volunteer Fire Department holds their Annual Fund Drive the month of July each year. Although this is the time period the majority of their donations are received, the SAVFD gladly appreciates donations received at any time.
Donations can be mailed to:

Any private funding donations would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully the City will be in a position to extend renovation efforts in the future, but right now we just don't have any budget funds to free up for the project. Please consider the funding site for some small donation. At present the hurricane repairs are complete, but the building still needs to be dried completely in on the north side. Any little bit helps.
Donations may be mailed to or drop off at City Hall, 301 S Harrison St, San Augustine, TX 75972 to the attention of The Lewis Railroad Hotel.

RFP will be up on this site by 8am Friday, 8/10/2018. The Tribune only comes out on Thursday, so we had to place the ad in order to get this pricing started this week. Check back here tomorrow. JC
As of today, Friday 08/10/2018, this has been Cancelled. It will likely be re-issued at a later date after additional engineering review.
San Augustine County is under a Burn Ban until further notice.
We received back lab reports, and we are lifting the precautionary boil notice we issued last week. To be clear, we never had any known issues with pathogens or poor test result that caused us to issue the notice. We were in the process of plumbing the new ground storage tanks to the system, and getting some of our red dirt in the lines was unavoidable. We wanted to be safe, and so came down on the side of caution. We are sorry for inconveniences we may have caused.
We're pleased to present the water report for 2017. I am back posting to the website. We did not have it when the report was first issued. It was on the old Main Street site.

Mission Dolores was a Spanish mission built in 1721 in what is now San Augustine County, just 20 miles west of the Texas-Louisiana border. The site tells an important history about the Native American experience with Texas’ earliest European settlers. Today, there are no historic above-ground remains of the mission. The mission site has been confirmed by archeological investigations and historical records. Mission Dolores is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is a designated State Antiquities Landmark.

The Annual San Augustine County Chamber of Commerce Miss Merry Christmas Pageant is held on the 1st Saturday in December. Girls ages 0 - 18 can enter and compete as long as they reside in San Augustine County.
Currently there are 7 divisions as of the 2018 Pageant. They are as follows:
Queen - Grades 9 - 12
Duchess - Grades 6 - 8
Princess - Grades 3 - 5
Tiny Princess - Grades K - 2nd
This is a release for 2 Violations from the TCEQ. One is for being over allowable TTHM (Trihalomethanes) maximum on the yearly running average in Q1 2018, and the other is a failure to report to the State our Surface Water Monthly Operating Report (SWMOR) in May of 2018. The TTHM average is nothing new, and now that the two new surface tanks have been operating for a while we expect the average will drop well below the mandated levels.

AUSTIN – Attorney General Ken Paxton today issued a consumer alert regarding persons alleging to be priests or pastors texting members of the church and asking them to buy gift cards for a false charitable cause.
Texans have received deceptive texts from people pretending to be pastors, then requesting that they purchase a gift card and send them the information to access that card. The scammers claim these gift cards are needed for some charitable reason, but insist they cannot pick up a gift card themselves and the purchaser will be reimbursed.

The City of San Augustine will hold an Emergency Council Meeting today at 6:30 P.M. at City Hall to discuss restoration of City's power grid after tornado damages.
Power Grid Update
As of this morning, power has been restored to about 97% of homes, and all contract electric utility crews have been released. Line crews from the City and Deep East Texas Electric Co-op are continuing to work to restore power to the remaining areas. If you are still without power and you have not called to report the outage, please call City Hall to submit a work order. If you’ve already reported your outage, a work order has been created and there is no need to call again. We thank you for your patience as we continue to recover from last week’s storm.
The City thanks the good people of the Sabine River Authority who today granted the County and City of San Augustine ten and thirty thousand dollars respectively from their Community Assistance Program. This money will help with short term operating expenses and act to offset revenue lost with the partial obliteration of our power grid in last week's devastating tornado. Thank you!

The recycle trailer is available again for recycling cardboard, plastic and newspapers. It is available each Wed at the Transfer Station. Many people refer to this as the dump, and it is located out 147 S from town just past the railroad tracks. You can put any of the afore mentioned materials in the trailer, and nothing else. The market for these commodities is very low margin, so there is no room for sorting trash or cleaning peoples food waste off containers. Recycle plastics marked 1 or 2. See graphic.

To all City utility customers, the City Hall has changed the due date to add an extra five days for payment without late fees. There is no remaining conceivable way we can do anything more differently to avoid being at the mercy of the US Postal Service, so we are changing the date as a tactic to give people more time to plan.

Mayor Hughes has signed a proclamation lifting the City's Adoption of the County Shelter in Place Order which took place on April 1, 2020. From now on, unless other orders become necessary, we will only adhere to current orders issued by the Governor of the State of Texas relative to the COVID-19 pandemic. The new order lifting the order is effective at 11:59 tonight. The Proclamation is executed under authority granted to the Mayor by the City Council at the Called Meeting on April 7, 2020. It references the County Order which we had adopted.
Now that the County and City of San Augustine Stay at Home Orders have either expired or been lifted, what is left is the Executive Order issued by Governor Abbott dealing with returning to work. Here it is in its entirety attached to the bottom of this news release. The important content starts on page 3.
Downtown Sidewalk Update
The contracts are signed between the builder and the City to commence work on the sidewalks under the Texas Main Street Capital Fund CDBG Grant. The pre-construction meeting was held online Monday and the work is scheduled to begin on May 26 just after the holiday at area one as shown in the pictures. The second area will be next, and the two will likely be going at the same time once activity ramps up when work starts. We do not yet have the schedule for all the work, but it will be posted on the City website as soon as we have it.
Attention landowners of Sabine, Shelby, & San Augustine Counties, this is the time of year when you could see the effects of Laurel Wilt on your Sassafras trees. Laurel Wilt is caused by a fungus that is carried by an insect, the redbay ambrosia beetle. These organisms are native to Asia and are invasive pests in North America. They can easily be transported across counties by movement of infested wood products and firewood. Please do not move any firewood products across county lines to help slow and prevent the spread of Laurel Wilt in east Texas.

COVID-19 and VACCINATION UPDATE:
First, vaccination news. San Augustine County has not been getting our “ fair share” of vaccines. After many letters and emails, and lots of help from the offices of State Representative Trent Ashby and Senator Robert Nichols, we are about to catch up!!
Angelina County has been deemed a vaccination hub and since we( San Augustine County) are a part of the Angelina Health District, we are a “ mini hub”, so this means our County should start getting a weekly vaccine allocation starting next week.
Update as of 1:30 pm 02/11/21 (Same as the Site Alert)
All shots for this week are allocated, so no need to get call for this week. From now on the shots will be weekly on Wednesdays (subject to change by the State). DO NOT SHOW UP IF NOT ALREADY ON THE LIST since there will not be a dose for you unless you are pre-registered.
Covid -19 Vaccination update:
