Covid-19 Vaccination Update - SA to be mini-hub

From County Judge Jeff Boyd

COVID-19 and VACCINATION UPDATE:
First, vaccination news. San Augustine County has not been getting our “ fair share” of vaccines. After many letters and emails, and lots of help from the offices of State Representative Trent Ashby and Senator Robert Nichols, we are about to catch up!!

Angelina County has been deemed a vaccination hub and since we( San Augustine County) are a part of the Angelina Health District, we are a “ mini hub”, so this means our County should start getting a weekly vaccine allocation starting next week.

This is the information that I have been given at this time:
We should receive 200-300 vaccines weekly. These will be administered though our local CHI Hospital. You can sign up by calling 936-630-8500 and telling them you want to be added to the San Augustine CHI list. At this time, only health care workers, first responders, those over age 65, and others with a Major health problem verified with a Physician’s letter will be eligible. Once you are added to the list, you will be notified of your day and time for vaccination.

The San Augustine Youth Arena will be the site for these vaccines. I anticipate one day a week, from 8-4 . More information will be coming in the next day or two.
Brookshires will no longer be a vaccine outlet, we do appreciate the job they have done.. The Hope Center Will continue to receive and administer vaccines over and beyond what we get thru the Angelina Hub. Big thanks to Hope Center for the great job they have done in their office and at The First Baptist Church.

Please be patient. This is a huge project and I’m sure we wii have to adjust some as we go. Hopefully we will soon have every willing person in the County vaccinated. Please spread this message to anyone you know that needs the vaccine. Many folks don’t have access to computers or internet. The San Augustine Tribune will also be helping spread the word.

Covid-19 update:
San Augustine County added 2 new cases in the past week. We have now had a total of 324 positives since the pandemic began. The State shows us with 199 probables, 269 recovered, 28 fatalities and 27 active cases. Please continue to use the safety measures that are recommended. Let’s do everything we can to keep our numbers low.
