March 17 Update:
Various State, County, City and Healthcare officials met at the San Augustine Courthouse to discuss the situation with the Covid-19 Virus as related to our County. The San Augustine and Broadus School Districts were also on hand as well as representatives from our local nursing homes. Everything that can be done from a facility standpoint is being done. Check with the school district website to monitor closures. If you do not need to appear at a public place in person, don't. Stay home where possible. Nothing new resulted from the meeting other than we now know everyone is tacking measures to control infection. At City Hall re routinely disinfect door handles and common areas several times a day. Similar controls are in effect at the courthouse and schools. Presently there is not a declared State of Emergency at the County level, but that may change any day. We will post it when we know more. To date there are no confirmed cases in the County or City of San Augustine. The nursing facilities have all drastically cut or cut off visitation from their communities, and both the County and City have cut off rentals of facilities and hosting of groups until further notice. Effective immediately the rental of the Log Cabin and Senior Center are suspended indefinitely. All deposits will be returned. Don't count on this changing with warmer weather either. Singapore, as an example, is Equatorial, and they are having viral issues as well. Too little is known about the illness to make long range predictions. Again, STAY HOME if possible.
Original Post:
City Management has assembled some useful links and downloads for employers and individuals alike. What is true for this virus is also true for all communicable disease risks, so this information will be valid regardless. The City has no plans to intervene in the community at this time, but we suggest you take greater care in close proximity to others. Use social distancing, and keep your hands away from your face. This information is primarily from the CDC in response to the spread of COVID-19.
