The City of San Augustine has an opening for a Chief of Police. A successful candidate will start work round the 1st of October 2023.
The Chief of Police plans and directs the law enforcement program of the City of San Augustine. The Chief shall be responsible for attaining goals, mission, and programs of the City and for providing vision for the Police Department for the protection of life and property through a varied program of enforcement, detection, and prevention of crime and accidents. This position is a mission critical management and supervisory role, which includes the establishment of operations and policy, evaluation and adherence to prescribed standards/best practices, and planning for and implementing special law enforcement activities.
The Chief shall be subordinate to the City Manager and superior to all other personnel within the Police Department. Work shall be evaluated through observation, discussion and review of reports, and through an appraisal of the general effectiveness of department operations. The Chief shall be expected to present a positive outward face to the community and to participate with the community in pursuing good public relations. As part of community relations, the Chief shall also join the City Manager in attending monthly council meetings to report on department activities.
