San Augustine is Under a Second Boil Notice

This Notice was rescinded 031621 see the file at page bottom.

Following a catastrophic Failure at a Pump Facility:

Due to a loss of system pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of San Augustine Texas public water system (PWS ID 2030001) to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions.

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

If you have questions concerning this matter, you may contact Chris Anding (Superintendent) at City of San Augustine by phone to 936-275-2121 or by email at info@cityofsanaugustinetx.gov.

This is a precautionary boil notice since the major weather event we have just undergone caused us to run out of water, and loose water pressure in parts of town. Although the issue has been resolved in the water plant, we still have numerous leaks that we won’t be able to repair immediately since additional weather is moving into the area as this is being written. To help avoid more shortages please conserve water as much as possible.

This is ultimately due to the catastrophic water main failure at the City’s Pump Station yesterday that resulted in a system pressure loss through the night and this morning. The loss is not total, but we feel it is better to error on the side of caution. Also, more system pipe ruptures are likely as we recharge the 96 area of San Augustine.
